Irrigation System Restrictions
Long-term water shortages across the state required passage of an ordinance restricting usage of irrigation systems during specific hours of the day here in Haltom City.
Lawn & Landscape Irrigation Restrictions:
- Except for hand watering and the use of soaker hoses, it shall be unlawful for any person to irrigate, water, or cause or permit the irrigation or watering of any lawn or landscape located on premises owned, leased, or managed by that person between the hours of 10 am and 6 pm during the period from June 1 through September 30 of any year.
- Prohibitions of wasting water to include situations such as a substantial amount of water that may fall on impervious area instead of a lawn or landscape, such that a constant stream of water overflows from the lawn or landscape onto a street or other drainage area; or an irrigation system or other lawn or landscape watering devise to operate during any form of precipitation.
- Exceptions to prohibited water use are outlined in Haltom City's Water Conservation and Emergency Water Demand Plan, which lists exceptions based on drought or emergency response stages.
Irrigation System Rain & Freeze Sensors:
- Any non-residential irrigation system installed within the City on or after July 1, 2006 must be equipped with rain and freeze sensors in number and type established and published by the Director of Public Works. Any existing non-residential irrigation system must have the rain and freeze sensors installed by June 1, 2007. Also rain and freeze guards on non-residential irrigation systems must be inspected annually.
- New residential irrigation systems installed on or after June 1, 2007 must include rain and freeze sensors.
