The purpose of the Animal Advisory Committee is to assist the City in complying w/requirements of V.T.C.A. Health, Safety Code Ch 823 which regulates the operation of local government animal shelters. Appointed by the City Council, one member must be a veterinarian, one a municipal officer, one member represents an animal welfare organization, one member has duties which include the daily operation of the animal shelter, the fifth member is a citizen of the City.

The Animal Advisory Committee is required by law to meet at least three times a year.
